Prosthetic Hand

Conducted FEA and analytical calculations to evaluate the structural integrity of a prosthetic hand under tensile loads.

Redesigned components, ensuring compliance with safety criteria and design requirements, and extended product lifespan.

Carried out a fatigue life analysis to determine part longevity.

Marc Mentat was employed to evaluate the structural integrity of the ‘palm’ of a prosthetic hand and its connections under a worst-case scenario tensile load through the two fingers.

Analysis confirmed that holes of the lugs, pins and rods met the 2.5 safety factor requirements, the part didn’t meet the Safety Factor criteria, requiring to be redesigned.

FEA analysis was then repeated for the redesigned part, effectively reducing stress and meeting the safety factor requirements.

Finally, a fatigue life analysis was carried out to establish the lifespan of the part.
